Chinelo Okparanta
2018Chinelo Okparanta was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria and moved with her family to the US at the age of ten. She received her BSc from Pennsylvania State University, her MA from Rutgers University and her MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Her stories have been featured in the New Yorker and Granta. In 2013 she was shortlisted for the Caine Prize for African Writing and her first collection of stories, Happiness, Like Water (Granta, 2013), was a finalist for the New York Public Library Young Lions Fiction Award and shortlisted for the Etisalat Prize for Literature. Under the Udala Trees is her first novel.
